We have donated 150 Acoustic Guitars and 15 Classical Guitars as of October 2021!
We have 24 Programs Total • 22 in New Mexico and 2 in Texas! ALL Programs are taught by Staff at the Facilities which include Youth Detention Centers, Recovery Academies and Title 1 Schools. In 2020 we delivered 32 Acoustic Guitars to Albuquerque High School, Highland High School, Y.D.D.C. in Albuquerque, NM and Stapleton Elementary School in Rio Rancho, NM.

Our 11th project is at the San Juan County Youth Services Center • Very happy that they're dropping off "Detention" Center off of the Titles! It was April 1st, 2017 or April "Fools" so the young men thought it was a joke until they saw the five Acoustic Guitars pictured above! Their faces let up with smiles and eyes wide and that's what this is all about "Bringing Hope through Music to at-risk Youth!" Our Tenth project started at the McKinnleyCounty Youth Detention Center in Gallup, NM in 2016 with 4 Acoustic Guitars et al. Our Ninth project started at the High Plains Youth Detention Center Transitional Living Unit on December 5th, 2015 with4 Acoustic Guitars et al. It was an early Christmas Gift for the children there! Our sixth project started at the New Mexico Men's Recovery Academy in Los Lunas, NM in January 2015 comprised of six Acoustic Guitars donated by The Fender and Guitar Center Foundations. Our fifth project started at AMI "Kids" in Cuba, NM, November 2014 comprised of six Acoustic Guitars and is being run by staff - THANK you AMI!!! Our fourth project started at the Santa Fe Youth Development Center in June 2014 and our third project started in Taos during Christmas week 2013 at the Taos Youth Development Center. Santa Fe is a project with six Acoustic Guitars donated by the Fender Foundation with Picks, Extra Strings, Tuners, Extra Batteries, Stands, Gig Bags, Straps, Cleaning Cloths, a Humidifier and Curriculum/Music books. Taos is a smaller project with us providing four Classical Guitars, Tuners, Batteries, Guitar Stands, Cleaning Cloths, Picks, a Guitar Teaching Notebook and a Humidifier
to keep the guitars moist. All of the programs are running and doing very well!
The Freedom in Music Project is an integral part of RiseN Music Ministry,
a Non Profit Corporation in the State of New Mexico, as of July 2011.
This "Secular" Project was established to bring hope through the power of music.
The purpose of the program is to bring permanent music and basic recording rooms into New Mexico's Long-Term Stay Youth Detention Centers. The first music room was at the Bernalillo County Youth Detention/Services Center in Albuquerque.
The program ran for two years and was a great success - it should start back up again in 2015 when volunteer guitar teachers are found! This unfortunately has been a major problem. Guitarists please step up!!! This program is to turn "detained" youth onto the power of music and off of unproductive behavior with the assistance
of mentors. It is well documented that music can make a huge difference in a person's life. Our second project started in 2013 at the YDDC facility on Edith Street in Albuquerque. Governor Martinez got the ball rolling for us to meet with the appropriate people and Title X money was found to purchase twelve Yamaha Acoustic Guitars and percussion instruments. As of October 2021 this Program has 22 Acoustic Guitars and 2 Acoustic/Electric Guitars. This will be a curriculum elective for the youth, which is "our" dream come true! Music and the Arts have been cut from the "normal" school budget, which really is a crime. THANK you so much Math and Phys. Ed Teacher, Jerry Molina for creating this Music Elective and this wonderful Music Program! What does a society leave behind other than its Art, Music and literature. Hallelujah!!!
